Paraphrasing Tips in Turnitin Plagiaris Checker

Paraphrasing is a linguistic term which means re-expressing a concept in another way in the same language, but without changing its meaning.

Paraphrasing allows the author to put a slightly different emphasis on the original author. The term paraphrase comes from the English paraphrase, from the Latin paraphrasis, from the Greek para phraseïn which means "additional way of expression".

Paraphrasing is one way to borrow ideas/ideas from a source without plagiarizing. According to the Oxford Advanced Leaner's Dictionary, paraphrasing is “a way of expressing what someone else has written and said using different words to make it easier to understand.”

In other words, paraphrasing is a quote that uses one's own words to express the same idea. In addition to making the idea easier to understand, paraphrasing can also be used to maintain coherence and coherence in the flow of writing.

    The mental processes needed for the success of a prephrase help the writer to fully understand the meaning of the source text he is going to adapt.

Each writer has and developed his own technique to develop his expertise in paraphrasing. This technique is unique. For novice writers, he or she needs to learn to develop paraphrasing skills. If you're not familiar with paraphrasing, here are 6 effective steps for paraphrasing as provided by Purdue's OWL guide:

    Read the source text again until you understand the contents of the text
    Get rid of the original text/manuscript and rewrite the ideas in the text on a piece of paper.
    List a few words under your paraphrase to remind you again of how you understood the original text. On top of the notecard, write down keywords that indicate the subject or theme of your paraphrase.
    Compare your paraphrase with the original text to check whether all the ideas, especially the important ones, have been included in the paraphrase.
    Use double quotes to identify specific terms, terminology, or phrases that you borrowed from the original, and that you took to be exactly the same as the original.
    Write the source (including the page) on your notebook paper so that it makes it easier for you to write down the bibliography or reference source, if you intend to take the paraphrase

If you still have difficulty in paraphrasing, then start practicing from the easiest level first, which is paraphrasing at the sentence level. If you are good enough at paraphrasing sentences, then paraphrase a paragraph. Here is an example of paraphrasing for sentence level first:

Example 2 Paraphrasing Techniques For Turnitin Programs:

As a beginner, the paraphrasing above is still allowed. But if you have learned and have the skills to paraphrase, both Booth and the guide from Purdue University's OWL explain that paraphrasing very similar to the original is still considered plagiarism, even if the original source is listed there. This is a very tricky thing and requires a lot of practice.
